Therapy for us
Finding a therapist who ‘gets it’ is hard for us. Queer and trans folks are underrepresented in this field, and too many of us have had bad experiences with cishet providers. I have too!
It doesn’t have to be that way. I can’t separate my lived experience from my professional background - I’m a community member first. I’d love to help you on your own journey.

A lot of trans care still requires a therapist’s “letter of readiness” before we can move forward with accessing our healthcare. Trans healthcare is proven to be medically necessary and lifesaving care, and shouldn’t be gatekept from any of us! As such, I offer free letters of readiness for folks, and practice under the WPATH guidelines for assessments.

I’ve been in BDSM and kink communities since my adolescence, and with a dedicated personal practice that guides my own play. I work with individuals and couples to expand their own personal play and BDSM dynamics. 60 or 90 minutes. Sliding scale fee: $160-$200/hr.
I am currently practicing in-person and virtually in Nova Scotia, and virtually in Ontario.
About Margo
I am a white trans femme social worker and therapist, focusing on sex and relational therapy for couples and polycules, along with supports for queer and trans folks in individual therapy. I am active in BDSM communities, and research the intersections of kink and somatic healing practices for queer kinksters. I draw from narrative therapy to center my clients’ expertise in their own journeys.
Before moving to Atlantic Canada, I had spent 15 years working in mental health, public policy and community organizing spaces in Baltimore City. I have helped lead transformative efforts to advance queer and trans rights in the States, including improving trans healthcare, advocating for prison abolition, supporting birthing justice and healthcare equity, and promoting housing rights.
I acknowledge that I am a white settler living on the unceded and ancestral land of the Mi’kmaq people, and strive to bring a deeply reflective approach to the systemic barriers affecting my clients, along with a commitment to fostering collective liberation through personal healing. I don’t believe I can offer comprehensive therapy support without also providing a strong focus on the systemic roots of minority stress and its impacts on my clients.
My therapeutic practice is rooted in a humanistic approach, emphasizing empathy and a non-judgmental space where clients are encouraged to share their experiences and stories. Drawing from my own personal experiences with addiction, homelessness, and survival sex work, I practice with a harm reduction standpoint.
I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore City in 2014 and am currently pursuing a Master’s in Women and Gender Studies at Saint Mary’s University. I have shared my knowledge through workshops, panels, and educational sessions across the US on queer and trans health and wellness. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my children, my partners, and my beloved queer community.
